Utility Designating

Utility designating is a critical process in the planning and design phase of commercial construction and infrastructure projects to determine the approximate location of subsurface utilities. Insight™ specializes in providing accurate, reliable utility identification, mapping and marking services by leveraging advanced technology, industry best practices and the expertise of skilled professionals, reducing unexpected utility conflicts and minimizing costly project delays.

  • 811 Utility Locating is a nationwide service designed to promote safe digging practices and protect underground utilities from accidental damage during excavation projects. This essential step helps prevent potential hazards, costly repairs, and service disruptions caused by accidental damage to utilities.

  • GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) is a cutting-edge, non-destructive technology used in Utility Designating to accurately locate and map subsurface utilities. By transmitting high-frequency radio waves into the ground and analyzing the reflected signals, GPR provides valuable information on the position, depth, and material composition of underground utilities without any excavation.

  • The process of using non-invasive methods of detecting rebar, post-tension cables, metallic and non-metallic conduits as well as current-carrying wires embedded in or below concrete.

Utility Locating / Hydro Excavation

Utility Locating and Hydro Excavation are essential services in the realm of construction and infrastructure development, combining advanced techniques to accurately identify and map subsurface utilities while ensuring their safe exposure.  These services play a pivotal role in safely working around the vase amount of existing buried utilities.

  • Soft Dig Technology gently displaces soil using compressed air, maintaining pipeline integrity in the performance of utility locating or trenching.

  • Test Holes, also known as potholing or daylighting, are a crucial aspect of Utility Locating and Hydro Excavation, providing a safe and efficient method for visually verifying the precise location, depth, and condition of subsurface utilities. Our Proprietary Insight™ Test Hole Report™ uses data capture technology to bring the site to you with real-time underground utility reporting with surrounding project site information and photographic documentation.

Pipe Inspection

Pipe Inspection is a vital service in the maintenance and management of underground infrastructure, providing valuable insights into the condition and functionality of pipes. By employing advanced technologies such as high-resolution video cameras and robotic crawlers, pipe inspection enables the effective assessment of pipe materials, structural integrity, and potential blockages or defects.

  • Utilizing high-resolution video cameras mounted on robotic crawlers or push cameras, this method provides real-time visual feedback of the pipe's interior, allowing for the identification of structural issues, blockages, and defects.

  • Lateral Launch allows sanitary laterals to be inspected and located from the mainline instead of entering the house.

  • Laser Measuring devices mounted in the camera allows us to measure the smallest cracks and joints. This is a requirement for Virginia’s Test Method 123, which is a prerequisite for VDOT acceptance of new pipes.

Pipe Cleaning / Jetting

Pipe Cleaning and Jetting is a crucial service in the upkeep and management of underground infrastructure, ensuring optimal functionality and longevity of pipes. By employing high-pressure water jetting techniques, this process effectively removes built-up debris, sediment, and obstructions from pipe interiors, restoring their full capacity and flow efficiency.

  • Pipe Cleaning/Jetting is a process using pressurized water, 80 gallons per minute at 2,500 PSI to perform jetting/cleaning of storm and sanitary systems. We use a full range of nozzle sizes and nozzle types to remove blockages and debris, including roots and grease, from active systems. Pipe Cleaning/Jetting cleans stormwater management systems in support of annual maintenance requirements.
